About Renaissance and Renew
John Leineweber and Mary McAuley established Renaissance Realty in 1979 shortly after completing their studies at Northwestern University on Chicago's North Shore. The initial focus of Renaissance was the rehabilitation and professional management of vintage rental buildings on the City's north side.
The success of these projects created a demand for the detailed and personalized management that Renaissance offered and the portfolio for outside clients grew to include rental, condominium and commercial properties throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
In 1991 a separate management division, Renew Management Services, was formed to concentrate on residential and commercial rentals, providing start to finish property services; marketing and leasing, capital improvements and regular maintenance, professional services oversight and comprehensive accounting reports.
Meanwhile Renaissance Realty and Construction flourished in the niche area of Evanston loft development, creating uniquely designed spaces for creative office use or live/work. Having studied art history and European cultures, John and Mary translated their love for the anthropomorphic forms of the art nouveau movement to finely detailed designs in the new loft spaces; mosaic tile floors designed by renowned stained glass artist, Larry Zgoda, elaborate serpentine iron fencing, railing and stairway structures and exquisitely landscaped courtyards. Every facet of the design process is undertaken to enhance the particular creative strength of the collaborating artists.
With seven loft developments completed and another two in process, Renaissance Realty & Construction has contributed to Evanston’s robust economic growth by helping to shape a dynamic new Arts District in the heart of the City. A distinct community of artists, innovators and entrepreneurs has come together in these unique spaces that enhance their creative energy.
